Machining enquiries: drawings, tolerances and quote information
Describe a component clearly: material, geometry, quantity, important surfaces and the inspection requirements to agree against the drawing.
Supply the intended component drawing
Send the current drawing with dimensions and a revision number. Attach a 3D model with the drawing if available. A model helps explain the shape but may not contain every requirement for the finished component.
Show holes, threads, mating surfaces and other important areas. If the part belongs to an assembly, explain its function and any known compatibility requirements with the other components.
Identify material and blank condition
State the material grade, required quantity and information about the blank. Explain whether you already have it, its dimensions and any previous processing. If the material has not been specified, identify that question instead of hiding it behind an approximate description.
Feasibility depends on the actual requirements. A similar component photograph or an equipment name in a process video is not confirmation that a particular operation is suitable for your part.
Highlight the required result
Include important tolerances and surface requirements in the documentation. Mark dimensions that determine interaction with other components. Avoid requests such as maximum precision without identifying what needs to be checked.
If the drawing is incomplete, list the outstanding questions. Resolve them before manufacturing so that buyer and supplier share a clear understanding of the intended result rather than relying on different assumptions.
Agree inspection and completeness
Discuss dimensions to be checked, inspection records, quantity and handover requirements. If supporting documents are needed, include that in the enquiry rather than asking after production is complete.
